Field Effect Technologies
What earthly use does all this theoretical business have?
As the prominent roboticist Prof. Peter Corke tells us, our machines today are "effectively blind."
In a similar vein, the engineers of IBM's Watson state explicitly that their amazing creation has no awareness of having won a game of Jeopardy!
The work at hand removes these obstacles, by way of what I call Artificial Sentience, or machine consciousness.
Fifty years of research took me into various disciplines, including, curiously enough, the foundations of quantum field theory, which would appear to require renovation.
A big claim, to be sure, but Nobelist Frank Wilczek went on a book tour a few years ago, making many of the same points I'd been spouting off about for a long, long time. So that was encouraging.
I've typically appealed to field theory v. color & vision as exemplars of more general ideas. In the last few years, though, I've moved on to sound and hearing — and stumbled into a cave full of wonders known as the Langlands Program, named after Robert Langlands, who now occupies Einstein's old office at Princeton.
And that really put some fresh wind in my sails.
